Downtown Oconomowoc is the historic center and heart of the community, where all facets of community life come together: retail, services, government, neighborhoods, employment, and recreation. More than any other part of the city, the downtown defines Oconomowoc as a community. The city has made it a priority to strengthen the downtown by capitalizing on its unique assets - its natural beauty, cultural heritage, friendly and inviting businesses, and secure position as the heart of Lake Country.
The downtown has become a destination for those seeking a vibrant place to live, work, shop, learn and play. The downtown gateway sculpture greets you as you enter downtown, and in the evening provides a light show that represents the key components of our downtown: lakes (blue), heritage (orange), people (purple), vibrant (green), and creative (yellow).
To help attract more businesses to our newly reconstructed downtown area, the City of Oconomowoc and First Bank Financial Centre teamed up to establish a Downtown Oconomowoc Business Loan Pool. As the number one SBA lender in Wisconsin, First Bank Financial Centre committed capital to fund the loan pool. Eligible expenses for these loans include acquisition of property, building improvements, equipment purchases, and environmental or safety compliance. The loans are generally $10,000 to $25,000 at a fixed 1% rate, and loan decisions are made by the Oconomowoc Community Development Authority.
